Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous Oxide Light Sedation
Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) can help nervous patients relax. It is a colorless, non-flammable gas, with a slightly sweet odor and taste. It is used in surgery and dentistry for its anesthetic and analgesic (pain relieving) effects. It is known as “laughing gas” due to the euphoric effects of inhaling it.
Is nitrous oxide safe?
Yes. When used correctly, nitrous oxide can safely reduce anxiety during dental procedures.
Ironically enough, Nitrous oxide is also the propellant used in aerosol whipping cream
How long does Nitrous Oxide last?
Nitrous oxide is completely eliminated through your lungs in about 1 minute.
Does my insurance pay for nitrous?”
Some do. Others don’t. The best indicator of what your insurance company will pay is in the information packet they send you. We’re also happy to give your an estimate based on what they have paid for similar patients in the past.
Can I get nitrous instead of a shot?
Nitrous oxide does make procedures more comfortable. And it can make the time in our chair seem to pass a little faster, but it’s not a replacement for a local anesthetic. It can, however, make the shot more comfortable.
